Emma ~ Senior 2012

Posted on September 22, 2011

Emma’s session was so much fun.  We had a beautiful SoCal day and plenty of backlighting….my favorite.  Emma’s a cheerleader, so she wanted to incorporate a little of that in her shoot, and her boyfriend even joined in the fun for a few shots.   She’s super photogenic, so really……my job wasn’t that hard :)

Rock The Shot ~ Backlighting

Posted on September 13, 2011

I’m a member of a really cool website for photographers called Rock the Shot {www.rocktheshotforum.com} and this month’s challenge is “backlighting”.

Now, y’all KNOW how much I love backlighting!!  Seriously, I’m slightly obsessed…..so I wasn’t sure which photo to submit – I have so many backlit shots, especially from some of my Senior sessions, that I didn’t know how to choose.  That is, until I shot Emma.

I found this pocket of yumminess that was just…….you know how when you’re shooting and you just KNOW that what you’re getting is gonna be so great and you can’t really take a breath because you just have to make sure you get the shot and you’re just praying that your assistant (in this case, sweet Nicolette – HS Senior job shadowing me) doesn’t have to sneeze or that the wind doesn’t blow so the lightboard stays EXACTLY where it is……yeah that.

I got a TON of gorgeous backlit shots of Emma…..because I’m greedy and obsessed….but ultimately, I chose this one for the Rock the Shot contest….LOVE those rays of pink at the top!  Oh, and it totally helps that she’s ridiculously gorgeous.

Tech specs:  Nikon D300S, 85mm 1.4 @ 1.4,  1/1250  and 320 ISO (I always leave my ISO at 320, btw)  Edited in Adobe Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5

Voila!   Feel free to comment if you have questions, etc….
