Such a fun session…such a gorgeous girl!  Thanks to Jami Cox for her skills, and as usual, beautiful work!  Ciera rocked this – love what we got; here’s some of my faves.

Mitzvah Madness

Posted on October 22, 2011

I shoot a LOT of bar and bat mitzvahs.   You may not see all of them on my blog, for one reason or another, but they’re still a huge part of my business.  I never intended to shoot them….it just sort of happened ;)    A friend of mine asked me to shoot her daughter’s a few years back, and I’ve been booked ever since!

When I decided that I would actively pursue these gigs, I also made the decision that I would not shoot them in the “traditional” way.  Yes, we get photos with the Torah.  Yes, we get photos during the Horah.  But I wanted to shoot these as I would a wedding – telling the story of the day (or days, as the case often is).  I wanted the families to be able to feel the day as they looked back through the images.   After all, this is a major milestone in not only the child’s life, but in their entire family’s as well.

I’m not Jewish.  I never had any Jewish friends growing up.   So, yeah – I had NO IDEA what I was doing at first.  Another reason to be thankful for google.  Now, after three years and countless mitzvahs, I definitely know my way around a temple ;)    And I actually really enjoy when I can photograph the ceremony…which isn’t often.  It’s such a special thing to witness.

I shot Hayden’s older brother’s bar mitzvah two years ago, and now it’s his turn.  Thought I’d share some of my favorites with you all.  Robinson’s Ranch is such a great venue to shoot ~ loved being able to go back there for this one.  If any of you photogs have technical questions, leave me a comment and I’ll try and answer them ~ mitzvahs can be a great addition to your business.
